ZeroTier Remote Access Guide

This guide explains how any team member can connect to the NFE OpenEMS Raspberry Pi from anywhere in the world using ZeroTier. It covers both SSH access (Mac Terminal) and graphical access (VNC Viewer).

1. PREREQUISITES
==================================================================
Before starting, the team member needs:
• A Mac or Windows laptop  
• A ZeroTier account (free)  
• ZeroTier One installed  
• SSH or VNC enabled on the Raspberry Pi  
• The Network ID from Hillary: 1d719394043ed7b9

2. INSTALL ZEROTIER ON YOUR DEVICE
==================================================================
Mac:
1. Download ZeroTier One: https://www.zerotier.com/download/
2. Install it normally.
3. After installation, click the ZeroTier icon in the top-right menu bar.
4. It should show your Device ID.

Windows:
1. Download ZeroTier from the same link above.
2. Install and launch it.
3. ZeroTier icon will appear in the taskbar.

3. JOIN THE COMPANY ZEROTIER NETWORK

1. Click the ZeroTier icon on your computer.
2. Choose “Join Network…”
3. Enter the network ID:
   1d719394043ed7b9
4. Click Join.
5. Tell Hillary so he can approve your device.
6. Once approved, your computer will receive a virtual IP like:
   192.168.192.xxx

4. FIND THE RASPBERRY PI'S ZEROTIER IP
==================================================================
The Pi is already joined to the network.
Its ZeroTier IP is:
192.168.192.83

==================================================================
5. SSH ACCESS (MAC TERMINAL)
==================================================================
1. Open Terminal.
2. Run:
   ssh pi@192.168.192.83
3. If prompted for the password:
   pi user password (provided privately)
4. You are now remotely inside the Raspberry Pi.

6. VNC ACCESS (REMOTE DESKTOP)
==================================================================
1. Install VNC Viewer: https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/viewer/
2. Open it.
3. In the address box, enter:
   192.168.192.83
4. Click Connect.
5. Enter the Pi login username & password.
6. You now have full graphical remote access.

7. TROUBLESHOOTING
==================================================================
• If ZeroTier shows “Not authorized,” ask Hillary to approve your device.
• If you cannot SSH, confirm:
  – ZeroTier shows “Online”
  – Pi is powered & connected
• If VNC fails:
  – Make sure VNC is enabled on the Pi
  – Use the ZeroTier IP, not the home WiFi IP
